About

I am always eager to leverage on data and advances in technology to
solve redundant problems.

My experience in both geoscience and technology has equipped me with a unique skill set that allows me to bridge the gap between these two fields, bringing a data-driven approach to geological exploration and resource development. I am excited to continue exploring new opportunities for innovation and collaboration in this dynamic and rapidly evolving field, and to use my skills to make a positive impact on society and the environment.

Education.

I am a distinguished graduate of the prestigious Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA), where I earned a Bachelor of Technology degree in Applied Geophysics in 2016. My final year research project was a groundbreaking study on biostratigraphy and geostatistics, which sought to define the depositional environment of a reservoir and analyze the distribution of its properties in the subsurface. The impressive results of my research were presented in a poster presentation at the internationally renowned American Association of Petroleum Geologists International Conference and Exhibition held in South Africa in 2018. Additionally, I obtained a master’s degree in geophysics with specialization in carbon sequestration and data analytics from Texas A&M University, Kingsville, United States.

During my time at FUTA, I had the privilege of working alongside esteemed lecturers, including Dr. James Abe and Dr. Ojo Abosede, in developing a state-of-the-art 3-D petrophysical model of a reservoir within the Niger-Delta of Nigeria. This project was presented at the 8th Mini Nigerian Association of Petroleum Explorationists (NAPE) conference, held at the prestigious University of Ibadan in 2015.

Taiwo is interested in leveraging on data analytics to build geological resource models, find insight and patterns in data as well as looking for new resources for development. Additionally, I am interested in using machine learning to develop solutions that will help in the safe exploration of natural resources. As a geostatistician, I am equipped with the requisite skills and knowledge to solve complex spatial data related problems.

Currently, I hold dual roles as a geologist and data scientist at Freeport-McMoRan.

Certification.

Beyond my academic pursuits, I am passionately dedicated to advancing my knowledge and expertise across various scientific disciplines that are interwoven with my field. One such example is the dynamic field of Data Science. As a distinguished graduate of both the 2021 and 2022 cohorts of Data Science Nigeria (DSN), I possess a certification in Data Science from Worldquant University in New Orleans, USA. Furthermore. Currently, I am actively pursuing professional certification in Artificial Intelligence through the world-renowned platform of Coursera.

Professional Experience.

I am a dynamic geoscientist whose passion for the field has driven me to excel in my career. My journey began as a geoscience intern at Integrated Data Services Limited, a subsidiary of the Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation. There, I honed my skills in analyzing and interpreting Well logs and 3-D seismic data for hydrocarbon exploration.

After completing my compulsory National Youth Service program, I joined Omo Oye Integrated Data Services Limited, a technology start-up company in Abeokuta, Ogun State, Nigeria, where I served as the Program and Team Lead. As the pioneer staff, I played a pivotal role in successfully establishing the company’s operations in Abeokuta, increasing the staff strength from just myself to a team of 15 full-time and part-time staff members.

My expertise also extends to contract work, having served as a geoscientist with Bokolo Petrochemicals Limited. In the summer of 2022, I worked as a Machine Learning Geoscientist with Nevada Gold Mines, where I set up a machine learning framework for the automatic recognition of geologic core photos, a project I continue to refine.

Currently, I am a Data Analyst and Geoscientist with Freeport-McMoran in Tucson, Arizona, where I utilize my expertise in data science tools to improve the company’s geologic resource modeling workflow. My journey exemplifies my dedication to my field and my unrelenting pursuit of excellence.

Research.

As an accomplished researcher in geoscience, I have consistently demonstrated a keen interest and exceptional proficiency in this field. My outstanding conference presentations and publications are a testament to my unwavering dedication to geoscience research. With three impressive publications to my name, including “Sequence Stratigraphic Interpretation of the Olu Oilfield Sediments, Offshore Niger Delta, Nigeria,” “3-D Geostatistical Model and Volumetric Estimation of ‘Del’ Field, Niger Delta,” and “Field Developmental Plan Analysis: A Case Study of ‘x’ Reservoir,” I have established myself as a recognized authority in this field.

My exceptional skills and expertise have been showcased at both local and international conferences, such as the Nigerian Association of Petroleum Explorationist International Conference and Exhibition and the American Association of Petroleum Geologists International Conference and Exhibition.

Professional Membership.

I am a professional member of the Nigerian Association of Petroleum Explorationist, American Association of Petroleum Geologists, Society of Exploration Geophysicists, and Society of Mining, Metallurgy & Exploration.
